If you wish to direct a domain name that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is directed to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site you have set up, but it will also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record created for the main domain makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record using our Linux cloud hosting packages is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few simple steps. You'll find a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with a number of opportunities - if you build a company site on our end, for example, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create a site by using a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain, so all your visitors are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually appears to be a tough task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single Linux semi-dedicated hosting package that we provide, is quite simple to use. If you need to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will have to do will be to choose the domain or subdomain you need, pick the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then type the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is quite simple and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record will be completely active and within a few hours it is going to propagate around the globe. If you are not sure what you have to do, we've prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located within that same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for assistance at any moment.
